3-1 Discussion: Project Scope

Share a scope statement for a project that you are currently involved in or have worked on in the past.

If you are not currently involved in a project or are new to project management, develop a short scope statement you will use for your final project using the Waterloo case study and the project scenario you chose in Module One. If you choose this option there are attachments that will help with this option.

Next, analyze the project scope statement and identify areas that are vulnerable to project scope creep, explaining why. Discuss how, as a project manager, you might address scope creep. Keeping the CAPM® and PMBOK® principles in mind, how would you go about drafting the scope management plan?

If you are using a project from your past, what kind of scope creep did you experience and how did it affect the project schedule and cost? If you are using the Waterloo case study, what types of scope creep did the past Waterloo project have, and what impact did it have on the outcome of the project?

Use your own experience to provide examples and illustrate your points, but also be sure to support your ideas with research and sound project management principles and practices such as those that will be tested on the CAPM® exam.
